Cate Blanchett loves to take chances when it comes to fashion. At the 2007 Oscars, she chose this gun-metal, one-shoulder gown by Armani. The style is reflected in the wedding gown by Vineyard which is part of the Fall 2009 Collection.

Modern Dress & Layered Necklace

It’s a double treat today!

I immediately fell in love with the simplicity yet, chic outfirt worn by Rose Byrne at the 2008 Emmys. She looked fantastic in a diamond ribbed silk & georgette/viscose jersey tank dress which, in my opinion, belongs in the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) ! The dress is part of the 2009 Calvin Klein Resort collection as seen on the model in stone. Although, the model doesn’t really do the dress any justice and I think it stands out better in white. The gown is perfect for a no-frills, modern bride who still wants to look chic.

I also loved how Rose paired the dress with a long and layered silver necklace which dresses it up. I found the greatest layered mixed chain called “critique” from Dirty Librarian to help you recreate the Rose’s look.

I’m pretty sure that the one dress that got the most attention at the 2007 Emmy’s was the Zac Posen creation worn by actress and emmy award winner, Katherine Heigl. When I saw it, I immediately thought…wedding dress! Only a celebrity could wear a white evening gown and get away with it. Well, now you too can have a similar gown for your wedding at edressme for $520.

Scalloped Detailing

Marion Cotillard tried something a little different by wearing this white Jean Paul Gaultier gown with scalloped detailing to the 2008 Oscars. A winner of an award, Marion oozed glamour when she walked on stage in the form fitting gown looking quite like a model mermaid. In fact, now we’re seeing scallopwed detailing as a trend for 2009 in wedding fashion. Here on left is a gown from Reem Acra’s 2009 spring collection that attempts the scale-like details with silver beading.

Don’t you just hate how celebrities can afford to wear the glamourous designs of the most talented designers in the world? Don’t you also envy how they can wear a formal white gown and not get asked “is it your wedding day?” and only reply “why no, I just felt like wearing white.” Ok, so I’m exaggerating, but honestly, I had those thoughts in my head when I saw pictures of Camilla Alves, significant other of the hunky Matthew McConaughey, at the Dolce and Gabbana “Golden Age” Party in Milan. Not only does she look absolutely stunning, but she just so happens to be the mother of his child (this lady’s got it going on!). Her white and strapless, empire waist gown is to die for and you really can’t help but imagine the picture above as Camilla and Matthew’s much anticipated wedding day.

Anyways, enough of my drooling over how she looks in that gown. I ended up looking for a wedding gown that was similar (which really wasn’t that hard) and located a billowy dress in Monique L’huillier’s Fall 2008 Collection. If you are on a budget, you will surely find a gown for much less if you keep in mind the accent points.

Triple winner of the night, Tina Fey looked all dressed-up in this very beautiful deep purple gown by David Meister. The sleek mermaid silouette shows off all her curves, and the style is for a bride that wants all eyes on her on her special day. Immediately, I thought of one of my favorite wedding gown designers, Tara Keely, who indeed has a sweetheart neckline gown that is a close mirror of Tina’s in her 2009 Spring Collection.

Desperate Housewife Felicity Huffman looked like a goddess when she wore this Marchesa white gown to the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards. The jewel encrusted white gown looks almost exactly like the wedding gown from the Lara Hélène Bridal Atelier, Spring 2009 collection. Any gown with a similar design will be a sure stunner on any bride. The empire waist disguises any tummy you don’t want to be seen, and the jeweled bands across the chest bring attention up towards the face.

When I think of Kate Winslet, I immediately remember the mint-green Valentino gown that she wore to the 2007 Oscars. The asymmetric, one-shoulder gown has a sash that distinctly wraps across the chest and trails down the back. Similarly, the white Galina gown on the right is a one-shoulder, A-line gown that is draped across the chest. However, it is gathered near the neckline with a jeweled broach to add a bit of glamour to the simple, yet elegant dress.

Fashion icon Grace Kelly wore this Helen Rose gown on her April 19, 1956 wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco. Three dozen seamstresses worked on the gown for six weeks, resulting in a 125 year old rose-point lace, silk taffeta gown costing over $7200. Princess Grace then donated the gown to the Philadelphia Museum of Art where it is still showcased today.

You too can wear the same regal design as Grace Kelly through VoguePatterns, which can provide you with the dimensions and patterns needed for a custom fit.

Thanks Susan for sending this to me!

Carrie Underwood wore this Georges Chakra white lace dress to the 2007 American Music Awards and received mixed reviews. The high collared halter can be seen in the Spring 2009 St. Pucchi wedding gown collection, although the gown is longer and slightly different in detail. With a halter like that, there’s no need to accessorize because the necklace is built into the gown!
