Mat Kearney - Closer to Love
Posted in Songs on 1 February 2010

I rarely find songs that I love. But when I do, I become dedicated to it. This means I play it over and over and OVER again until I get sick of it. If it’s good enough, I’ll find a way to incorporate it into a wedding, either during a ceremony, cocktails, dinner music or a first dance. So this weekend, I was browsing around for Edmonton wedding news and found a gem of a song in the portfolio of the very talented videography of Imago Weddings. Maybe I’m just behind the times because it’s not a new song, but I absolutely love it. It makes me pretty happy just listening to it.

Matt Nathanson: Wedding Dress
Posted in Songs on 7 January 2010

Running this blog has given me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people and it’s always a treat to connect with someone who I haven’t met personally! Gilkana always pops by once in a while to share with me some songs she finds and this one is definitely one I just HAD to post. The lyrics are so unbelievably perfect for a wedding.

So we lie here in the dark / All the wrong things on fire / In sickness and in health / To be with you / Just to be with you / In your wedding dress / To have and to hold / Even at my best / I wanna let go / And you hold me in your arms / And all that I can see / Is my future in your hands / And all that I can feel / Is how long ever after is / But it’s all that I can do / To be with you / Just to be with you

My new song obsession - I think you might like it!

Moonlight Serenade
Posted in Songs on 24 August 2009

One of my wedding obsession readers, Gilkana, shared with me this beautiful song “Moonlight Serenade” performed by the Glenn Miller Orchestra. The song inspired her to choose a 40s theme for her upcoming wedding. This could be used as a song during cocktails, dinner and would be great for a first dance.

Thanks for the suggestion Gilkana!

Brad Paisley - Oh Love
Posted in Songs on 26 July 2009

It has been a LONG time since I’ve posted a first dance song, since I’ve put off choosing music for my ceremony & reception until closer to may of next year. Now normally I’m not a fan of country music, I think this particular song would be a perfect choice for any bride. Brad Paisley ft. Carrie Underwood. Beautiful lyrics.

Beyonce - Halo
Posted in Songs on 28 April 2009

Ok..while I try not to choose songs that are too mainstream..I can’t help but post Halo by Beyonce. I just keep listening to it over and over again. The video & the lyrics are just too sweet!

Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they’re tumbling down
And they didn’t even put up a fight
They didn’t even make up a sound

I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now

It’s like I’ve been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin’
It’s the risk that I’m takin’
I ain’t never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace

You’re everything I need and more
It’s written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won’t fade away

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You’re the only one that I want
Think I’m addicted to your light

I swore I’d never fall again
But this don’t even feel like falling
Gravity can’t forget
To pull me back to the ground again

Feels like I’ve been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin’
The risk that I’m takin’
I’m never gonna shut you out

Tom Baxter - Better
Posted in Songs on 26 February 2009

Thanks to Gilkana for sending this to me! Lovely lyrics and beautiful song. I’ve added it to the First Dance Playlist up top.

The official video - it’s really cute.

Our love has changed,
It’s not the same,
And the only way to say it
Is say it .. it’s better.
I can’t concede,
This way I feel,
For all the time we spent, together,
Forever .. just gets better.
See what I’m trying to say is:
You make things .. better
And no matter what the day is,
With you here .. it’s better.
I’ll stand by you,
If you stand by me.
I think time that I, reveal it,
‘Coz I believe it
It’s better
See what I’m trying to say is:
You make things .. better
And no matter what the day is,
With you here .. it’s better
Ooh the more I .. talk .. to .. you

Jon McLaughlin - Smack Into You
Posted in Songs on 18 February 2009

I’m a big fan of Jon Mclaughlin and of of my favorite songs is “Smack Into You.” It might sound familiar because Beyonce has the same song, but by a different name, “Smash Into You. Regardless, both versions are great for a first dance.

Head down as I watch my feet take turns hitting the ground
eyes shut, I find myself in love racing the Earth
and I soaked in your love
and love is right in my path, in my grasp
and me and you belong

I wanna run, run smack into you
I wanna run, run, smack into you

ears closed, what I hear no one else has to know
cause’ I know that what we have is worth first place in gold
and I soaked in your love
and love is right in my path, in my grasp
and me and you belong

and I, I wanna run, run smack into you
I’m willing to run, run smack into you

The Script - I’m Yours
Posted in Songs on 13 February 2009

The lyrics of this song almost makes me cry. It’s a touching song from a man to his lady.

You’ve touched these tired eyes of mine
And mapped my face line by line
And some how growing old feels fine
I listen close for I’m not smart
You wrap your thoughts and works of art
And there hanging on the walls of my heart.

I may not have the softest touch
I may not say the words as such
And though I may not look like much
I’m yours.

And though my edge is maybe rough
I never feel I’m quite enough
And it may not seem like very much
But I’m yours.

You healed these scars over time
And braced my soul, you loved my mind
Your the only angel in my life
The day the news came, my best friend died
My knees went weak, and you saw me cry
Say I’m still the soldier in your eyes.
