Sopranos Star Marries in Hawaii
Posted in bouquets, celebrity, news on 31 August 2008

Photo by Starsurf / Splash News Online

PEOPLE confirms that Sopranos star James Gandolfini married former model Deborah Lin in Honolulu, Hawaii on Saturday, although his reps have not confirmed the news (no need to, since there’s a photo of it!)

Says a wedding guest:

“There was a nice big kiss at the end with both hands on the cheeks…They looked great.”

The couple was surrounded by white lilies and rhododendrons at the Central Union Church where the ceremony took place. Lin wore a white Italian lace gown and walked down the aisle to the “Hawaiian Wedding Song” played by a harpist in the background.

At the reception, the tables were adorned with white flowers and both Gandolfini and Lin wore long, green leis around their necks.

Congrats to them! I’m guessing the photos will then be sold to a magazine and we’ll be able to see it all. Isn’t it great to be a celebrity and basically get part of your wedding paid for…if not all of it? *sigh*

Get Your Own Elvis and Priscilla Wedding Dolls
Posted in celebrity, news on 12 August 2008

From Entertainment Tonight:

It’s Elvis Presley week at Graceland and in honor of the King, Mattel has issued limited edition Elvis and Priscilla Presley wedding-day dolls.

“It’s been a year in the making,” Priscilla tells ET’s Mark Steines. “It’s unbelievable what they’ve done … even to the little boutonniere on [Elvis’] lapel and the tiara I have on my veil.”

Forty thousand of the dolls will go on sale with the first 200 hitting the shelves at Graceland today. But only one will be autographed by Priscilla. It will be auctioned off to benefit Presley Place in Memphis, which provides housing, career and financial counseling and other tools to help its residents break the cycle of poverty and regain independence.

Elvis and Priscilla married on May 1, 1967 at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. They managed to keep their wedding a secret from the press — even going so far as to use a decoy fiancé whenever Priscilla would go for a dress fitting.

“We knew if it did get out, it wouldn’t be the wedding we wanted, it would be a circus … We could never pull that off today, never ever ever,” she says. “We flew from Palm Springs [in Frank Sinatra’s plane] in the early morning hours. We did not sleep all night long. We were just comatose because of the excitement.”

They were joined by their families and friends and, while their vows were traditional, Priscilla remembers that the word “obey’ was taken out of the ceremony.

Mark asks if it was something that Elvis wanted, but Priscilla laughs and says, “I didn’t want that.”

8-8-8 wedding

If you aren’t aware, today is a lucky and prosperous day for many. It’s basically 7-7-7 revisited but to a greater extreme. The Chinese consider the number 8 to stand for prosperity. In fact, if you know anyone who is a traditional chinese, you would expect that they would try to get the number 8 in anything that they own. Just this past month, my dad went to the automobile registry and requested that he get to choose his license plate just so he could get a number eight in it. Ha! But he had just missed it because someone else had grabbed it (must have been asian :P).

In fact, even the Summer Olympic Games are starting exactly eight minutes after the eighth hour on the eight day of the eighth month in the eighth year of the 21st Century. Goodness that’s a lot of 8’s.

The picture above was taken at the Hokkien Association building in Klang, outside Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Aug 8/08 where 238 newly wed couples tied the knot. In fact, there are numerous weddings taking place where the couples are not asian, yet believe that indeed ‘8′ is their lucky number.

Brides Angry at HSBC!
Posted in news on 7 August 2008

Did you hear about this in the news or were you one of the unlucky brides? (sorry if you are!)

Recently married couples hand in a petition to the HSBC headquarters following the bank’s decision to withhold funds from the wedding gift company Wrapit, in London, on August 6, 2008. An estimated 100,000 wedding guests have been left out of pocket after ordering presents through Wrapit, which collapsed this week. The online firm, which handles around 2,500 to 3,500 wedding lists a year, appointed administrators after spending the last few months struggling to refinance. The protesters are campaigning to recover the money that they are owed from the wedding gifts that have not been delivered.

Interesting Monthly Wedding Photo Round-Up
Posted in news on 4 August 2008

I have to appologize for not posting as much lately, but it was a long holiday and there was so much to do! I’m in the process of making a wedding resource for just Edmonton brides, so any readers out there from Edmonton keep your eyes open for it!

We all know love can translate in many ways. So, it always amazes me when I get a glimpse of what weddings are like around the world. Here we go - your interesting wedding photo round-up for the month (click to enlarge):

photos: Reuters

Descriptions starting top left (clockwise):

- A bride poses among a flock of pigeons during a pre-wedding photoshoot in Beijing. Over 1,000 couples waited in line to get their marriage licenses to wed on August 8/08 (08/08/08 is considered lucky because the number 8 stands for ‘fa’ or ‘to get wealthy’). The date also marks the opening ceremony of the Olympics held in Beijing.

- Reality TV stars (The Bachelorette) Ryan and Trista Sutter joined 20 other couples in a group wedding photo in a special “Mamma Mia!”themed wedding in a Burbank, CA IKEA on July 17, 2008.

- 39 police officers married in a collective Catholic wedding in Bagota.

- Little Jasper and Levi sit awkwardy after their ‘I will’ declaration during Children’s Wedding Day at the Science Museum NEMO in Amsterdam. The marriage lasts only one day, ending just after sunset.

Stay tuned for next month’s interesting photos…

A “Mandalorian” Wedding
Posted in geek, news on 29 July 2008

How do you know two people are meant to be together and just so happen to be die hard fans of the Star Wars movies? They decide to marry…Mandalorian style.

Thomas Kuhlman, 39, and Tenille Kuhlman, 30, married outside of Comic Con (the largest comic book and popular arts convention in the world) in full Mandalorian costume. And if you don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, Mandalorian is a fictional race in the Star Wars Universe. The couple were surrounded by fellow members of the Star Wars fan club, who also wore full costumes including helmets, boots and jet packs.

Leading up to the altar decorated with white faux roses, guests created a long light sabre arch for the bride and groom to walk under. The ceremony was carried out by Tom Hutchens, an IT professional and Mandalorian preacher.

Vows were recited in both Manalorian and English followed by the unique ending, “I now pronounce you Mandalorian husband and wife.”

Maria Bello Engaged to Writer
Posted in celebrity, news on 28 July 2008

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor star Maria Bello, 41 is engaged to Bryn Mooser, 28 confirms PEOPLE.

Says Bello: “I was always anti-marriage. I didn’t understand monogamy. I couldn’t figure out how that could last. And then I met Bryn and I started to understand the beauty of constancy and history and change and going on the roller coaster with someone – of having a partner in life.”

She said it perfectly. Love is a roller coaster, but one that’s well worth the ride.
