Salma Hayek at Art of Elysium Benefit
Posted in Bridal Accessories, Celebrity Weddings, Gowns, news on 10 November 2008

Salma Hayek opted for a very 1920’s look at the Art of Elysium Benefit in NYC, wearing a grecian styled gown and a black headpiece that only Salma can pull off. I decided to share this because her gown is very much like a wedding gown and fashion dictates that the 20’s is very much “in” at the moment.

Though, I think the harsh black headpiece alongside the white gown doesn’t really do her justice in my opinion. I would opt for softer make-up to complement the delicate gown. Likewise, a white or silver headpiece that does not have bands across the forehead would be a better choice so as to not take away attention from the gown. Thoughts?

Lovely Bows

I think I just might have found a dress that is a contender. This Lela Rose gown from the Fall 2009 collection is a simple A line gown with a beautiful origami-like bow detail in the front. To create the illusion of a waist, the gown includes a detailed bead belt.

I’m not too sure how I feel about bows though because it seems like it can go both ways. Take for example the gown that was worn by Anne Hathaway to the 79th annual Academy Awards. The bow detail in the front and back was a sore point for many critics. However, the size of the bow and it’s color drew unnecessary attention to it.

Now, if only I could try this gown on to see exactly how it fits :( That’s the problem with falling in love with runway fashions because it might be a while till you can get access to it!

A definate trend for 2008 & 2009 are the one shoulder gowns and of course, the strapless are here to stay. With that being said, we all know we can be self-conscious about our upper bodies (I know I am!). Here’s a great clip about how you can work on getting those sexy shoulders ready for your big day. Now if only I could get the motivation to do it…

How better to describe the Vera Wang Fall 2009 collection which was both creative and innovative, much expected from the well-respected designer. Here are a couple of the gowns that stuck out in my mind when I was browsing over the collection. (click to enlarge)

“Project Runway” Gown Inspiration
Posted in Gowns on 20 October 2008

Just under 2 weeks ago, the challenge for the final 4 contestants of Bravo’s Project Runway were asked to design wedding gowns. I think the first gown is one that most brides would be willing to wear, but there is something about the second one that makes me smile. I love the feather detailing and the vintage look. As for the last gown…hm..not so much?

I adore Marchesa
Posted in Gowns on 8 October 2008

I love looking to evening gown designers because it serves as an inspiration to me when I envision my own wedding gown. I’m not yet at that point where I have to go shopping, but I know generally what style I want. Although it seems to flip-flop, I truly enjoy the Grecian style gown. Marchesa does a fantastic job draping gowns so that you look like a goddess. I love the look of a strong one-shoulder coupled with a delicate bodice. I especially like the light blue gown in the middle, with the second strap draping the base of the shoulder.

Now if only I can get one of these gowns done in white without the price-tag.
