Floral Accents for Your Hair
Posted in Bridal Accessories, Hair, bridesmaid on 16 December 2008

It’s been a chilly -25 degrees celcius these past few days and I’m finding it so hard to focus on anything remotely important (like studying for my university exam). So as a treat I’d rather browse for some new inspiration wedding-wise and came across some of Jennifer Behr’s most recent bridal accessories hair collection. I posted before about how much I loved her silk and jeweled hairbands, so it’s to no surprise that I love her newest pieces as well. Here are three delicate floral ideas that add a feminine touch to just about any gown.

A Look Into Hong Kong Bridal Trends
Posted in Bridal Accessories, Gowns, bridesmaid on 14 December 2008

Actress Linda Chung recently played model in some very pretty wedding gowns in the newest issue of Wedding Magazine (Feel.hk). Kind of a side note, but because I’ve been told I look like her, this kind of helps me choose hair styles that might look good on me! Ah..the choices. Anyways, you might not be able to read the article and to be honest, I’m not great at Chinese either, so do enjoy the photos instead. Take away from this some trends regarding gowns, hair, accessories, etc that give us a glimpse of what’s popular in Hong Kong right now. I think I’ll be asking my mom who is there right now to share a bit about what she saw in Hong Kong and share it with you in the near future.

A Fun & Vintage Wedding
Posted in Bridal Accessories, Decorations, Gowns, bridesmaid on 11 December 2008

Some of you might have seen this wedding featured in the Brides magazine, but it warrants a second look! The bride tried her best to incorporate vintage details into her wedding and there are some great ideas you can take away from it.

The groom and groomsen wore striped green and black socks from J Crew, while the bride wore cute, red pumps that were perfect for her vintage ‘look’,

The satin ivory Jim Hjelm gown was altered to achieve the bride’s vision. The straight neckline was changed into a sweetheart style and the belt was actually made by the bride. She purchased a vintage belt buckle from ebay and added it to some extra fabric. She even created her own birdcage veil, which really tops off the look.

The bridesmaids wore chocolate-brown lace dresses.

To honor the family, the bride’s mother created this family tree which was displayed at the reception.

A common thread throughout was the pattern seen on the reception tables which was silk screened on the linens. Tables were named after cities the couple visited together. I love the contrast between the purple florals and the rustic motif & place cards.

Retro Details

The wedding of Jessica & Jon really caught my eye with their ode to retro wedding details.

The bride purchased old mason jars and asked wedding guests to bring their wedding photos to display in the jars. This added a nice vintage feel to the wedding by showing weddings from different eras.

I really like how they decided to use an old typewriter so that guests could type messages instead of the usual guestbook. The couple then framed the pages for display in their home.

Salma Hayek at Art of Elysium Benefit
Posted in Bridal Accessories, Celebrity Weddings, Gowns, news on 10 November 2008

Salma Hayek opted for a very 1920’s look at the Art of Elysium Benefit in NYC, wearing a grecian styled gown and a black headpiece that only Salma can pull off. I decided to share this because her gown is very much like a wedding gown and fashion dictates that the 20’s is very much “in” at the moment.

Though, I think the harsh black headpiece alongside the white gown doesn’t really do her justice in my opinion. I would opt for softer make-up to complement the delicate gown. Likewise, a white or silver headpiece that does not have bands across the forehead would be a better choice so as to not take away attention from the gown. Thoughts?

A Hint of Saffron
Posted in Bouquets, Bridal Accessories on 31 October 2008

J crew has some very cute rosetted clutches in bright saffron (shown above), light fushia, ivory, bright azul (blue), and black. I was particularly drawn to the saffron clutch, which can be complemented with a bouquet of cala lilly sunrises, as shown above, or bright gerber daisies.

Statement Cocktail Rings
Posted in Bridal Accessories, Rings on 29 October 2008

Came across these glamorous cocktail rings at J. Crew and had to share them with you. These cocktail rings show that bigger is better and floral designs are definately making a statement. I think it’s nice to add a little flair to a wedding ensemble that tends to be monochromatic white. It’s also a nice plus that these first two rings are both under $100.

If you’re willing to spend a bit more, here’s a cocktail ring by Stephen Dweck (available at Neiman Marcus for $370)

Hair: Vintage Chic
Posted in Bridal Accessories, Hair on 27 October 2008

I found this vintage hairstyle that would go perfectly with a 20’s bridal outfit. Here’s how to get this very polished look (courtesy Real Simple):

Step 1

Blow-dry hair with a round brush to create smoothness and a little volume. Make a side part and section off that part of hair to the opposite ear, clipping it out of the way (this will become the finger waves). Next, rub sculpting pomade in your palms and smooth the rest of the hair into a ponytail at the nape of the neck. Using your finger as a roller, take the top half of the ponytail and curl it toward the front of the head to create a mini bun. Secure the base of the bun to the back of your head with bobby pins.

Step 2

Gently spread the bun out horizontally and secure it to your head from left to right. Do the same with the lower half of the ponytail, curling it around your finger in the opposite direction, toward the nape. Secure with bobby pins, then spread open so you have two spread-open mini buns. Smooth any flyaways with a comb or a brush, then use flexible hairspray to finish.

Step 3

Divide hair into four 1-inch sections and use a small curling iron, working from front to back to create three waves in each section. Use your finger to loop waves around to make three pin curls. For the first section, wind hair downward around your finger to make three pin curls and secure each with a clip. On the next section, alternate the direction of the curl. You’ll have four rows of pin curls. Spray curls with a mist of flexible hairspray. Wait a minute for curls to cool. Remove clips and brush curls downward to create gentle waves; use fingers to smooth and sculpt, securing each with a section clip. Tuck the last wave into the scalp with a bobby pin; spray with super-hold hairspray; let dry. Use a curling iron to smooth and seal each wave, rolling the barrel in the direction that the curl is going.

Step 4

This concept is a little bit sexier than your average bride and all about the eyes (which makes for great photographs). Intensify the eye shape with a smokier eye, heavier waterproof mascara, and lining inside the lash line (a technique not recommended for those with small eyes since it can make them look even smaller) with a gray liner. Apply a taupey-gray eye shadow with coral in the crease.
