Rod & Lauren knew immediately the moment they met through mutual friends. Captured by Oak & Myrrh Photography, their special day is nothing short of beautiful. In addition to the picture perfect bride & groom, the florals are divine, the ceremony setting is swoon worthy and the food guests were treated to looks utterly scrumptious. Enjoy!
What was the overall inspiration behind the overall wedding décor and colour choices?
We wanted a wedding that really represented who we are as a couple. We looked at a lot of venues and nothing really seemed to portray the relaxed atmosphere that we were going for. We wanted family, friends, food and laughter to be the main themes, and I wanted beautiful flowers and elegant decor. Rod’s parents graciously offered up their property and with my Mom’s creative ideas, we thought this would be the perfect place to commit our lives together; in the place where Rod grew up and where we spent a lot of time together when we first started dating. The property is situated in a private forest area – with mature trees and gorgeous landscaping. I thought a garden theme would be beautiful with the backdrop of beautiful pines. We chose rich colours: eggplants purple, moss green, lavender and pink along with seasonal hydrangeas.
What were your memorable wedding moments?
The speeches were the most memorable for me. They were all so wonderful. They had me crying and laughing hysterically. Usually there is at least one awkward speech at a wedding but all of them were so great. We’ve never felt so loved and supported. I can’t wait to get the video back so we can watch them all over again.
The flowers and the meal were also very memorable. The backyard looked stunning, the chef built a wood barbeque to grill planked salmon and steak for all to see and make their selections. From the appetizers to the dessert – it was the best food at a wedding we’ve ever experienced and guests are still raving about it.
Any advice for brides/grooms-to-be?
Prioritize what is most important to you. This will help with budget and with time management. It’s easy to get carried away with the small stuff. When you’re feeling stressed with all of the little details, keep in mind that everyone is coming to watch you get married because they love you and want to support you as your begin your new life. Just relax and enjoy every moment because it goes by so quickly and you don’t want to look back and wish you weren’t so uptight the entire time. If you’re having a good time so will everyone else!
Invest in photography and videography. Select a photographer that has the style you are going for. There are so many to choose from with different ideas. Go with one that is able to capture your vision. Get a videographer or have a friend video tape for you. You spend so much time planning and thinking about the day and then the day goes by so fast and is such a blur. I can’t wait to re-live the day every year on our anniversary and see some of the moments we missed in the busyness of the day.
From Aisling (the phtoographer): Photographing Rod & Lauren’s day was very special for me. They had the ceremony and reception in Rod’s parents backyard. A couple of the neighbours even pitched in their backyards! A backyard wedding is so special. Every time you sit out back you will recall the time you committed your life and love all to one person. They completely transformed the backyard to an extremely classy affair filled with details any girl would swoon over. Lauren was drop dead gorgeous from head to toe, and Rod was one dapper groom. It was a more than a pleasure to capture this day for Lauren & Rod, and I wish them all the happiness in the world.
