I had my hair and make-up consultation last weekend hours before my engagement shoot. I decided to get more bang for my buck so I can look nice and made up for the shoot.
For my hair, I wanted nice loose waves and a bit of back combing to get some volume at the back my head (where I’m putting the veil). I went to Blo Dry Bar on Granville street in Vancouver to get my hair done. I chose this place because it’s known for its speediness and ability to accommodate multiple bridesmaids. My friend, a bride a few years ago, used them and loved them!
My hair stylist Sam D. was super friendly and knew exactly what I wanted. After we tried using the flat iron on my frizzy wavey hair and didn’t accomplish the softness I wanted, she suggested washing it and giving me a blow out while curling the ends. I loved that she knew what didn’t work and quickly switched gears! For this reason, please get a consultation, ladies! It’s very important. What works for someone else’s hair may not work for you.
We tested the veil on the hair style and it held in place perfectly. The second the veil went on, I started getting emotional again! I can’t wait until the big day.
My friend Tina Lee is doing my make up for the big day. She just started her business, Paeonia Makeup, and she’s already booked a few brides this summer. In fact, when she came to do my make up, she had just finished doing another wedding that morning (she got up at 4 am!). What a trooper!
I had a purple-gold eye lid with a peachy blush, and a muted pink lip stain. I loved it because I still looked like me, just the glamorous version of me! My make-up stayed on for the entire hot and sweaty day. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the engagement photos yet, but I did snap a low-quality photo 8 hours after the makeup application at a concert.
