From day one, Mandy and Shankar knew they wanted their wedding to be all about simple, classic elegance. Before any details were planned, Mandy told us about some mason jars that her grandma had kept for many, many years which were very special to her. She knew she wanted to incorporate them into her centerpieces, and from there their wedding began to take shape.

The entire day was the brides’s favorite moment. But the one thing that stood out in her mind was when “Shankar’s best man, Daniel, had us smash a glass and then lifted us into the air on chairs in a Jewish wedding tradition. It added a little something else to our Catholic and Hindu ceremonies !

Part of the couple’s vision for simple elegance was to find a venue that complimented their classic colour scheme of white, green and black, but that also stood as a city landmark. Right in the heart of the financial district, The Toronto Board of Trade was the perfect fit. Its neutral interior made a lovely backdrop and the huge wall to wall windows gave guests a breathtaking view of the city, especially at night.

The flowers and decor were all designed in the same white, green and black colour scheme. The centerpiece and bouquets were composed of white hydrangeas and peonies, accented with clusters of black berries. Mandy’s grandmother’s mason jars and were the perfect vessel for the centerpiece flowers. The inside of the jars were wrapped in bright green leaves, with the flowers matching those of the bouquets. To finish off the tablescape, mini mason jars with candles were added and sheet music from various love songs (that the bride and groom made themselves) cut in the shape of a heart were scattered about. Each place setting was finished with a tiny evergreen sapling that guests could take home and watch grow for years to come (much like the couple).
