I am a self-labelled typography nut.
When it came down to creating my own wedding invitations, programs and other stationery, I literally spent days scrounging the internet for the perfect font. Specifically, I was looking for one that would be modern/contemporary, but still pretty and frilly enough because it was a wedding. The fact is, the right font says it all and likely it’s almost as important as the graphics or pictures you include in your stationery. It can tell a guest immediately if the wedding will be fun + laid back or black tie formal.
And while there are numerous fonts out there that you can purchase, I thought it might be nice to share some fonts I’ve come across that are FREE. We love free right?
If you’re not sure how to add a new font, there’s loads of tutorials online.

Scriptina
This is definitely one of the most popular free fonts out there for wedding invitations. A totally pretty script that’s classic, yet modern.

Dancing Script
I just came across this gem a couple weeks ago. It’s definitely one of my new favorites.

Century Gothic
Likely, your computer will already have this font. It’s my all-time favorite when it comes to making contemporary styled stationery. For my own wedding stationery, this is the font that I used, although I chose to write all my text in caps.

Freebooter
This one’s got the curls. It’s a fun and sweet font.

Carpenter Script
While I love this font, avoid using this for large amounts of text. It’s quite stretched out, so it’s often hard to read. However, if you’re using it in a large format or just for your wedding names, this is definitely a pretty one.

Splendid Ornamenty
Another pretty one for a more formal event.

Cursif
Totally fun!

Champignon
Sweet, but be careful about the large spaces between words when using this font.

CAC Champagne
Easy to read and entirely classic.

I hoped that helped! Don’t hesitate to share some of your favorites by leaving a comment for this post. If you have any questions, let me know!

Font choice is so important! Have you seen the online campaigns to ban comic sans? I hate that font!

Melissa on December 05, 2011Awesome! Thank you.
Kath on December 05, 2011Love! Thanks Melissa- I’m a total font addict too :) Not sure if I’m doing something wrong but the “carpenter” font wasn’t working for me when I tried downloading it…
Kat on December 05, 2011Hi Kat –
weird! Someone else said they had an issue but when I went to download it, it worked. I’ve added a new link. Hopefully this one works. Let me know if it doesn’t.
It’s the first one on this link:
