Kristen and Matt met through mutual friends the summer of 2008. She was goalie for a co-ed soccer team. One night, they were short one man and in comes Matt to save the day. She asked him to help her warm up in net and after that, as Kristen says, “the rest is history”. Today’s wedding is definitely another pretty one thanks to my friend Jasser of JAG Photography (Edmonton). Inspired by the colours of the Vancouver Canucks, a favorite of Matt, Jasser shares “The reception at this wedding was beyond comparison. This was probably the funnest party I’ve been to this year”.
What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?
My Husband is from Vancouver and he is a huge fan of the Vancouver Canucks. Since we were having the wedding in my hometown of Camrose, Alberta, I thought that a play on the Vancouver Canucks colors would be fun, and it would mean a lot to Matt. I found the Peacock Blue color and fell in love with it, and I thought that lime green would be a fun accent color to show off the rich blue hue. For the decor, I wanted something fun and romantic, so I let my decorator Luci Nicholls take the lead and do what she does best. She is so creative, and we both had similar ideas. I would just bounce ideas off of Luci and she would help find what I needed to make everything perfect.
What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
My favorite part of the wedding was just having everyone we love around us, helping us celebrate our special day. The ceremony, the speeches, the photobooth, the father-daughter dance, everything was amazing.
Matt got [my ring] in Dubai. He had spent 5 months in Afghanistan on his first tour overseas and we were meeting up for his leave in Bali, and Dubai was his first stop out of Afghanistan
Do you have any advice for other brides-to-be?
Take a minute to take in all that is happening around you. The day will go by very fast. And if something goes wrong, pretty much only you and you alone will know that something didn’t go right. So don’t worry! Just enjoy every moment of your amazing day!
