GIVEAWAY! Handmade Weddings

By Melissa

So I’ve got a series of giveaways over the next three weeks and this next one is fabulous. When I was engaged, I literally picked up every wedding book available on do-it-yourself (DIY) crafts. And while there were the odd few, they lacked innovative projects that catered to my modern needs! So I received “Handmade Weddings” recently and with more than 50 crafts to style your wedding day, I really wish I had this resource when I was planning!

Written by Eunice Moyle and Sabrina Moyle of Hello!Lucky, paired with Shana Faust of Martha Stewart Weddings, this book will definitely bring some DIY pizazz to your wedding. When you normally flip through a wedding magazine, you’ll often wonder how they made those little details and now you can. I absolutely love how the book is separated into various wedding styles – Retro Homespun, Girly Romantic, Happy Graphic, Organic Minimal, Modern Classic and Found. Obviously my heart skipped a beat when I went through the Modern Classic projects!

As well, for each project, the difficulty rating is listed, along with the budget and the time it will take to complete. Talk about a lifesaver for your DIY heart.

Lucky for one of you, Chronicle Books is giving away one copy. Woohoo.

To enter, please leave a comment telling me…

What is your wedding style?
Contest ends Sunday, January 30.

This is a tough one… I really need to pin down a phrase that describes my style: Casual, whimsical, DIY, colorful, fun, group hug.

I’d love this book, though!

Dorothy on January 25, 2011

Our wedding is going with a timeless vintage style, with a touch of old Hollywood glam. I cannot wait to see everything come together, but am still looking for ideas for a few “missing” elements. It sounds like this book would be a great help!

Cara on January 25, 2011

I agree with Dorothy, this one is tough – but I would say romantic, party, fun and classic with a lot of DIY items that will make it “us”.

I would love the book so I could find out what other DIY projects we could do to go from “just another wedding” to “wow that was totally them”.

Tiffany on January 25, 2011

Our wedding is romantic rustic! It’s going to be in the mountains in B.C.

Shannon on January 25, 2011

WHat a wonderful book… I’m getting married on september 2011!! :))

Romantic vintage with slight whimsy! :)

Elaine on January 25, 2011

Helping plan my cousin’s wedding…going with a rustic, simplistic, romantic theme.

Bree on January 25, 2011

Our style is going to be intercultural and romantic – my fiancee is Sudanese-Canadian and I’m British-Canadian, so we’re having some henna, but still the white dress… we’re both students, so our centrepieces are going to be books and candles :)

Emily on January 25, 2011

Our wedding style is simple elegance with alot of DIY projects and personal touches with lots of photographs being used.

Andrea on January 25, 2011

Our style is going to be very vintage with a touch of romance.

Laura on January 25, 2011

Damask + Black, White and Red = Elegant and Romantic

Stephanie on January 25, 2011

Our wedding style: Warm, family and friends orientated. A celebration of us and a celebration of our guests. A modern tea garden with CBC radio 3 in the background. A walk along Spanish Banks. Romantic, real, lots of DIY and a little bit quirky!

Elisa on January 25, 2011

I was JUST drooling over that book in Chapters the other day! I was tempted to dog ear every other page and take it home with me. (after purchasing it of course!)
Our style is one you’re already familiar with – carnivale. We’re playing off classic tradition meets DIY playfulness. Our engagement photos (taken by Julie Butler) play a huge part in setting the theme of our celebration! :)

Krista Costanza on January 25, 2011

We’re going for a fun, modern, casual yet elegant feel. Our colours are chocolate brown, teal, and gold with all white flowers.

Kate on January 25, 2011

this is hard to pick …. But I would have to say whimsical garden chic!

Jenn on January 25, 2011

Our style is DIY – very rustic/crafty/whimsical – colour pallet of pewter, ivory, blush pink with mustard yellow accent… outdoor chandeliers, bird cages, floppy flowers in mason jars, old books…..

Cori on January 25, 2011

Romantic. Personal. Party.
Those are what I envision for my wedding.

Heather Johnson on January 25, 2011

We are having a June wedding…colors will be fushia, lime green and bright white….our theme…fresh and fun!

Renee on January 25, 2011

My wedding style is Modern Romantic. I was asked what my wedding theme was by my florist (I’m a DIY bride, with exception to bouquets) and I had no idea. So she asked me about my wedding and what my decor ideas were, and she helped me figure out my style. My wedding colours are Eggplant, Lime Green with a hint of platinum gold and my wedding and reception are being held at a beautiful winery in Victoria BC. I am so excited! I’m just starting to make my invitations now!

Nikki Penafiel on January 25, 2011

Vintage inspired with feminine elegance – Feathers, bows and pearls – Damask and green accent colours.

Liana on January 25, 2011

We are going with an odd combination of romantic 1940s with a rustic feel…we’re getting married in the Muskokas and I happened to fall in love with a vintage lace dress…so we’re making it work!

Rebecca on January 25, 2011

My wedding style is going to be understated elegance with a DIY touch. The theme for my wedding is butterflies, in memory of my mother who passed away of cancer, butterflies were her favorite. My wedding colors are chocolate brown and pink, which I think give the wedding a masculine touch for my finacee and the feminine touch for me. Our garden wedding is going to a great mixture of personal touches and thoughtfulness for our guests. I can’t wait for may 26 2012 to finally come!

Lisa on January 25, 2011

We are going with an old school romance theme, lots and lots of candles, soft lighting and romantic style decor to create an elegant, timeless feeling. Working with a very bare venue I’m looking for lots of DIY help and ideas to create this dream!

Jenna on January 25, 2011

My wedding style is modern yet elegant and I want it to be UNIQUE. I’m constantly on the Internet and reading wedding magazines and browsing through books at the bookstore to get ideas and inspiration. I’m going more for showing our personalities through the style so I’m thinking of doing a lot of DIY projects. So far I’ve created our save the dates. This book of yours would be so helpful..,

Vanessa on January 25, 2011

I like to call it ~Vintage/Organic~ LOTS of DIY projects- all being eco friendly. For the bulk of the decorations I’m making paper flowers (That kind of look like cherry blossoms on a branch)out of recycled security envelopes. Also mason jars wrapped in burlap and tied with twine.. and the centerpeices are terrariums in apothacary jars!

Melissa on January 25, 2011

We are doing simple but elegant. We are both from a big city but getting married in a very small town in my grandmothers garden. This means more to mean than anything and i want the garden to speak for itself and have a country feel. We are using hay bales as seating but we’ve added a modern touch with damask patterns, and our colors are bright blue, chocolate brown and fuschia flowers!!

Sarah on January 25, 2011

My wedding style is a martha stewart decorated farmhouse – beautiful, fresh, and full of love.

Laura on January 25, 2011

What a great giveaway! Our wedding theme would have to be a cosy wedding in the woods – lots of wood, lanterns, dahlias and a bonfire!

OH! You had me at Modern DIY! Our wedding is at an Equestrian Facility and my fiance grew up on a farm while I’m a city girl through and through. We’re both love simplicity and want to throw one AWESOME party. So our style I guess is Beautiful, Fun, Simple and Elegant…. is that a style? I don’t know. Fingers crossed!

Kayleigh Rosien on January 25, 2011

My wedding is: Coney Island meets Garden Fairy. Handmade paper flowers, pennants, & sparklers. I want it to be elegantly relaxed. Yeah: I’m still working it out…

Jamie on January 25, 2011

D-I-Y for sure! Modern Classic, romantic, unique and different, European-style, creative. I’m a DIY beginner but I’ve recently discovered I enjoy creating things with my hands, and figuring out how to do things myself while on a budget – including home renovations! My wedding will be on a very strict budget due to unforseen circumstances but I’m hoping to be able to make it as amazing as I possibly can.

Stephanie Taylor on January 25, 2011

margaret on January 25, 2011

Our wedding style is west coast mid-summer night’s romance!

Our vision for our wedding is chic, timeless, flirty, whimsical, sooooo very ROMANTIC. With love that overfills the space and guests who’ve come to celebrate with us. We’re planning our wedding from far away (living in Yellowknife, NWT) with the wedding in New Brunswick. We’ll need all the help we can get!

Riley on January 25, 2011

Our wedding style is fun, pretty and inclusive of our guests. My Fiance tied all of that together by coming up with a travel theme as it’s something that we love, have done with loved ones and friends and has played a large role in our relationship. We’re spending the majority of our engagement living on separate continents.

Alana on January 26, 2011

My wedding will be eco bohemian. My first question is what the impact this will be for my wedding and the environment? I have already made my invitations by hand and will be doing much more work in preparing the wedding my DIY way

Joann on January 27, 2011

We’re DIYing not only the wedding decor but also our rehearsal BBQ the night before. I’m already looking at making all sorts of paper banners, wreaths, rosettes and much more! This book would be amazing!

London-Bound Bride on January 27, 2011

My wedding style is modern chic … but with some traditional cultural traditions mixed in. I definitely want peacock colors, with amazing lighting at the reception, but with a traditional Catholic wedding for the ceremony in a big old Catholic church.
