Modern Elegance in Calgary

By Melissa

You have no idea how much it means to me when I get emails from brides. This next bride, Terra, is SO sweet. Sweet like an over-flowing candy bar. If you love details, you’re going to love Terra & Matt’s wedding. It’s elegant, classic and full of DIY projects that I know you’ll get some inspiration from. Not to mention, Terra used etsy.com as a resource which I love love love. Captured by LifeSeven Photography, the wedding was held at the beautiful Lynx Ridge Golf Club in Calgary.

The only thing I knew for sure when I started planning our wedding: I didn’t want floral centerpieces and traditional floral ceremony decor. When we selected our venue and saw the fireplace we would be married in front of, we knew that an elegant candlelight theme would be perfect for us. The reception room had over 140 glowing candles and the effect was incredible!

My dress decided the colour theme. It was the first dress I tried on and it was love at first sight! I chose black and champagne as I thought the champagne would complement the candlelight in the room. Small touches of damask were brought into the decor to play up the black and white from my dress.

My something blue was a tiny pocket mirror that said Keep Calm and Carry On. My mantra for the day! The cufflinks feature our mastiff and my husband’s first motorcycle and were my wedding day gift to him. The horse and the motorcycle on our cupcake toppers represent each of our passions.

Genius! I love the “Thoughts on Love” cards…so cute.

Our mantle decor had a very special meaning to us. My husband’s life-long best friend passed in a tragic accident 2 years ago. It was important to us to include him in our day and from that desire the idea was sprung to incorporate a photo of him and photos of our grandparents who had passed. We truly felt like they were there with us blessing our day and overseeing the celebration.

OTHER DETAILS:

A lot of the detail items were purchased from talented Etsy vendors. Etsy is a great way to save money and to find a vendor able to make something custom for you, but the amount of vendors can be overwhelming. To find the people I worked with, I read reviews from other brides on wedding planning sites and I also read blog posts highlighting quality Etsy wedding vendors.

Congrats Terra & Matt. Please keep in touch! xoxo.
