YOUR DAILY WEDDING DOSE:

Yes..No…Maybe so? Advice please!

My name is Melissa and I am a wedding-oh-holic. You know you are obsessed with weddings when you literally visit home decor stores at least once every 2 weeks and when you’re out you can’t help but notice anything that’s part of your “color palette”. I swear, Jason is going to take my credit card from me one day and condemn me to a day without weddings. I spent an entire afternoon last weekend at my favorite store Home Sense and literally wanted to take the entire store home. Immediately as I walked through the store doors, there it was…a table full of green & black stationary objects which were marketed as “office” items. But to me, I could care less what they’re meant for…but instead I fall immediately in love with the color and end up figuring out how I can make it work in the wedding. So…now I’m stuck with the item at home with a couple ideas of my own on how to use it. But I’d love to hear what you suggestions you have!

Options I can think of:
1. Seating Chart. The first box would be labeled “A-L” and the second “M to Z”. The escort cards would be lined up inside and the box would be similar to a library catalogue filing cabinet…
2. One that I think is more realistic….a gift card box. I initially thought about using a suitcase but scrapped the idea when I realized I wanted something worn and vintage (still on the lookout…). But would people understand that they can put their cards inside without stating the obvious tacky signage “thank you for your gift!”. yuck.
3. Just decor…fill the drawers with flowers….or use the box as a stand for something else.
4. Keep it for the home office and be done with it! But oh how I love how the color’s so purrrrrfect for the wedding.

Yes, I am slowly going crazy.

What about as a “Guest Box” (instead of a Guest Book)? Have your guests write messages to you on index cards. Then they can file the index cards into the box.

You can either keep their messages in the box, or scrapbook the index cards later with photos from your wedding & reception.

    Just an idea…

I like the seating chart idea :) But can’t think of anything else.

My vote is for seating chart, decor or wish cards (like a guest book, but guests fill out a card of well wishes and it’s a bit more personal than a guestbook).

I like the guest book/wish card idea or the seating chart. Personally, I wouldn’t use it for gift cards/checks because if you don’t find some way to keep it closed, anyone can just walk up and take them. And if you do keep it closed (using glue or something) then you don’t get to appreciate the beautiful pattern on the sides, which just might be my favorite part :)

I like the guest box idea…each guest can write you a message on a card for you and you can use this as double duty afterwards for storage and holding any wedding pictures of guests too!!

You could use them as part of a candy bar. Each box could be labeled with you and your fiancee’s favorite candies, and have them stored within so guests can scoop out at their leisure. You can have this on your own, or as part of a larger display. :)

    Hey Melissa!
I like the idea of using it for the guests to drop their cards into…if you just leave them open with some envelopes inside, I’m sure people will catch on!
Or, you could have your guests write their well wishes on a piece of cardstock and have them drop it in the box?
    Love them by the way!

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions!!

The only thing is..I already have a guestbook…and it’s pretty awesome so I don’t want to get rid of it. (will post about it soon).

@ChiCat – I totally didn’t think about people possibly taking a gift card from the box…I guess I’m trust people easily! But thanks I’ll note that.

Similar to the candy box idea, you could place guest favors (if you are having them) in the box for people to pick up on their way out at the end of the evening.

I love what Cynthia_Stellina*Stellina suggested. what a cool idea!
I know if I saw that at a wedding I would be very impressed

My favourite idea is to use it as a seating chart, but be cautious about creating a big line-up of guests waiting to rifle through the index cards…Perhaps pickup a few more and split the alphabet into more categories?

@Jenn – great point. Actually I was thinking about it..and these cards would have to be pretty large to stand up in the drawers. But your idea of having more than one to split the alphabet would be a great idea to make it more manageable for guests!

I still like the idea of having the large board filled with little cards with the names of the guests on them. Guess that allows more than one person to look at it at a time and take their card when they see their name.

Really starting to think about using this box in the home instead now!
