Asian Themed Weddings
18 March 2008
Although I knew Lisa Ling married quite recently, I have never seen her wedding pictures. She really followed an Asian theme to its fullest. Click to see larger image.

Here’s another way to incorporate ‘asian’ into your wedding without going as extreme.

what’s interesting about the purple-themed stuff is that, by not “going as extreme”, the traditional colours are being manipulated. while i like purple and white, red and gold are celebratory colours in Chinese history. Furthermore, white is used in funerals as it signifies death. I wonder who the designer was for this “asian” layout?
also, by being less “extreme” it will also cost more since everything that is normally quite readily available in red and gold, would have to be specially made in other colours.
having said all that though, the purple one would be cute for a dinner party if not for the Chinese symbols that give away its intention to be Chinese-y.
Great comment. Actually, your post reminded me that I had not put the source. It’s from bride.com.
Guaranteed, the designer is not asian. I myself, being Chinese, would agree that my family might find it slightly ‘confusing’ (lack of a better term). My dad, who is quite traditional, would probably agree with your concern over the traditional colours. However, it would be a suitable table setting if you were going for the asian fusion or pan-american style wedding. I think the designer was going for a more generalized Asian theme because he/she incorporated some Japanese aspects to it. But putting the silk runner on the chairs with the chinese word lends some confusion to the concept.
I agree with the extra cost though.
